Position Detail:

We are looking for an experienced Tour Boat Captain to join our Recreation team for this position in Northfield, MA.

This is a TEMPORARY summer position from June 12-October 13, 2023 and can be Part-time or Full-Time.

The Tour Boat Captain will operate a 2017 40 x 14 pontoon style vessel on the Connecticut River in Western Massachusetts.  The boat has a capacity of 51 passengers and departs three times a day (11:00 AM/ 1:15 PM/ 3:00 PM) for a 1 ½ hour round trip tour. A Second Mate provides the 45-minute narration and helps with docking and boarding of the vessel.

 

Key Responsibilities Include:

  • Oversee vessel and passenger safety and operate boat with the highest safety standards
  • Assist with customer boarding
  • Facilitate pleasant customer interactions
  • Ensure customer satisfaction and safety at all times
  • Follow safety procedures in order to ensure protection of passengers and vessel
  • Maintain accurate log book entries
  • Perform safety training drills with staff
  • Maintain cleanliness and professional appearance of vessel
  • Assist with maintenance of the vessel as needed

Job Qualifications / Skills

  • Must have high school diploma or equivalent
  • USCG 25-ton license is required as a minimum
  • Proven ability to safely navigate waterways
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Strong reading and writing skills and ability interpret and follow strict safety procedures
  • Ability to meet highest attendance requirements
  • Ability and willingness to work weekends
  • Must be able to pass background and drug test

Physical Requirements

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is exposed to a variety of weather conditions such as rain and heat
  • Ability to be physically mobile and frequently stand, walk, sit, reach, climb, bend, stoop, kneel or crouch
  • Must be able to walk up and down flights of stairs, ladders, and ramps, balance, work on uneven surfaces, work in close quarters and carry up to 50 lbs.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus
