We are looking for a Maintenance Manager to join our South Hydro team!

The CT Hydro Maintenance Manager plans, develops, directs, and coordinates programs to maintain electrical, instrumental, and mechanical engineering equipment and associated buildings and structures in safe, efficient, and reliable working conditions ensuring maximum unit availability.

Primary Duties
  • Develops, plans, and supervises updating cost effective preventative maintenance and repair programs to ensure compliance to long and short range goals.
  • Directs and documents maintenance and repair activities.
  • Coordinates assignments with other station departments, associated Company, and contractor activities.
  • Plans, directs, and documents overhaul and other major maintenance and repair activities to achieve maximum unit availability within budgeted costs.
  • Prepares and recommends specifications and evaluating bids for contractor activities and/or equipment purchases.
  • Prepares station maintenance, construction, and/or responsibility budgets; evaluating cost and payback of proposed budget items.
  • Develops and monitors programs to analyze and resolve conflicts or discrepancies with contractors and/or vendors.
  • Monitors training effectiveness and performance of electrical, mechanical, instrument, and engineering personnel to ensure compliance to qualification standards and initiating corrective measures and/or updating training.
  • Ensures that maintenance and repair activities are conducted in accordance with applicable regulatory requirements, costs, controls, and Company practices and procedures.
  • Assumes Station Manager’s responsibilities when designated.
  • Complies with all FirstLight policies and procedures.
Physical Requirements
  • Capable of frequent standing, walking, balancing, sitting, climbing (ladders, stairs, ramps, catwalks, stacks and the like as required), stooping, squatting, crouching, crawling, kneeling, reaching, grasping, pushing, pulling and lifting (min. 30 lbs.).
  • Visual acuity to accurately read and interpret such as but not limited to instruments, gauges and manuals.
  • Must be physically capable to entering and working in a confined space (crawl spaces, shafts, small enclosed areas, pipes and the like) as required.
  • Must be physically capable of performing work at various heights and in adverse conditions during operations, shutdowns, and in fire/emergency activities.
  • Must be physically capable of wearing protective equipment (PPE) including but not limited to half and full face respirators, fall protection equipment, hardhat, safety shoes, safety glasses, etc.
  • Occasional sitting for prolonged periods throughout the day.
  • Manual dexterity sufficient to operate keyboard, copier, telephone, and the ability to write and/or type.
  • Must be able to occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 lbs.
Qualifications / Skills
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical or Engineering preferred or equivalent in combined education and experience.
  • Courses in communications, Business Administration, or Management Principles are helpful.
  • 15 years’ experience with functional area or equivalent including supervisory responsibilities.
  • Previous engineering experience within an operating power plant preferred.
  • Complete working knowledge of power plant maintenance and systems.
  • Demonstrated management with the ability to plan, schedule, direct, and review work of more than one functional area.
  • Ability to analyze operational methods and develop improved procedures as needed.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
